Prepare Prepare Prepare

There’s a saying often attributed to Benjamin Franklin that says ‘By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail’. Well, you can’t say that about our bowling club. The outdoor bowling season is now over, but the work to prepare the green for the 2027 season continues.

Today (1st October) a team of members gathered to ‘top dress’ the green. Earlier it had been scarified and seed sown across the whole green. The top dressing involves spreading a very fine specialist soil across the green, nearly 3 tonnes, then leveling it so that dips and holes are filled and the seed is covered. A good watering will ensure a good growth. Our grounds team will then roll and cut later on to give a superb bowling surface for the new season. We do pride ourselves in our green.
